Favorite Peak

Across the valley from our studio in Canmore stands the end peak of Lawrence Grassi Mountain. Commonly known as Chinaman's Peak, that name has now been struck. A recent awareness that the term ''Chinaman'' could be interpreted as derogatory prompted this change. Back in the early mining years, a Chinese cook, Ha Ling, climbed this peak twice on a bet and won a $50 wager. Hence the name! - A new name has not yet been chosen... perhaps it will become Ha Ling Peak ... (?)
